Accies couldn’t rescue a point as Rangers under-17’s scuppered any plans of a late Hamilton comeback, running out as 5-2 winners at New Douglas Park.

Making a rare appearance at the home of the premier team, Lynsey Hogg’s side reduced the deficit from 3-0 to 3-2 with only seven to go through Emily Shearer and Emma Jai McCreadie, but the light blues responded instantly from the restart before sealing the win with another in a game that began and ended with goals.

The hosts went down within just the opening seconds of the game as Hannah Robertson used her pace to launch the visitors ahead, before grabbing another on the 13th, fighting off Shearer to put away after latching onto a through ball.

Teigan McCann and Emma Roberts were linking up up front for Accies as they tried to pull one back while

Rangers also tried to extend their lead, but Chloe Aitken did well in goals to keep them at bay.

After a foul on McCann near the box, Rachel Howie had the chance to get Hamilton on the scoresheet on the stroke of half time, but her freekick went straight to the keeper.

Eleven minutes into the second half, the visitors grabbed another as Courtney Keary knocked in from a corner, but six minutes later, a great distance strike from defender Shearer beat the keeper to make it three one.

And with seven of normal time to go, McCreadie found goal for Accies after a scramble in the box to see Hamilton’s confidence rise as they readied themselves to search for an equaliser.

But two minutes later Robertson killed off the NDP side’s chances as she slotted a long strike home and rounded off her night with a fourth just before full time.

Approaching fulltime, McCann went down injured in what turned out to be a broken collarbone.  Everyone at Hamilton wishes her a speedy recovery.
