Accies get 2015 season underway

Clinical Hibs ruthlessly sent Hamilton Accies out of the League Cup in the first round, but Gary Doctor said it's all part of his team coming together.

Hamilton traveled to Albyn Park for a tough first day of the season, but failed to get on the scoresheet as they made an early exit from the competition.

Doubles from Joelle Murray, Katey Turner, Lucy Graham and efforts from Claire Williamson and Lia Tweedie sunk Hamilton, but Doctor said it was all about their learning curve.

He said; "Obviously we don't like losing."

"We were playing one of the top two teams in the league this year, and looking at the depth that they have, and the players that came on at half time for them just shows you.

"It's really about preparing them for games that are coming up, it's part of our preparation, that's what we said before the game.

"Probably the most disappointing thing specifically was to lose goals from set pieces. We had talked about it but didn't really learn from it , and when you look at most of our players they haven't played a top half team in however long, maybe two or three played last year against a team like Hibs so it's a big step for a lot of them and all about their learning curve."

It was only eight minutes before Accies were undone as Hibs' captain Murray netted her first, before just three minutes later Turner put away hers her shot crossing Fleming's goal and tucking in the net.

Murray's second came three minutes before the break, her freekick from wide curling into goal with ease to give the hosts a three goal advantage at the break.

Similar to the first half, Hibs continued to test Hamilton from distance, and their efforts paid off, with Williamson's long range effort beating Fleming on the 54th.

While Accies still struggled to break down the Edinburgh side's defence, Graham began her assault on goal, her header easily held by Fleming.

Graham eventually found goal with 67 minutes on the clock, flicking in Robertson's corner for the fifth.

Hamilton then found themselves with a rare opportunity to pull one back, but Jordan Daliosio couldn't make anything of Gillian Inglis' freekick into the box.

A bad touch from Laura Gallen saw Hibs go on a dangerous break, with Graham meeting the cross into the box to knock in her second on the 75th.

Three minutes later, ex-Accies loanee Turner completed her brace linking with Williamson before leisurely taking the ball into the area and slipping it under Fleming.

With six to go, Hibs delivered their last blow as Tweedie connected with the corner and her bullet of a header buried Accies to see Hibs into the second round of the League Cup.
