Goalkeeping mistakes cost Accies

BY: COLETTE CARR

Laura Gavin put the visitors ahead twice despite Courtney McAvoy's late equaliser in the tense game that saw Accies down to ten players after keeper Elaine Fleming was sent to the stand.
The dramatic opener came on the 67th after Fleming took her time to deal with a passback, ultimately giving Hutchie enough time to make it back, and being unable to lift the ball, she brought down Yazmin Emek in the box.
leming saw red and new signing Lauren McGregor was introduced to replace her making a brilliant impact straight away as her first touch as Accies player was the penalty save.
But Gavin the taker jumped on the rebound as Accies switched off to put it over the line.

Both teams continued to create as the tense match approached the end, with both unable to convert until McAvoy grabbed her second in two games, catching the end of a low cross to slot in from close range after great work from Karen Baillie out wide to bring it in with three to go.

Hamilton's chance of any points were immediately dashed though, with Hutchie breaking from the restart, and Gavin placed her shot to go through the legs of McGregor who went low to catch.

Manager Gary Doctor spoke after the difficult clash saying that it was a tough lesson in not taking chances.

"I think it was a really strange game, they had a lot of chances and so did we, it was unbelievable that it was nil nil at half time.

"I thought second half we started much much better, we were on top, and then the big mistake changes everything.

"The referee must have got herself in a muddle when she blew after the save, it was as if the kicker couldn't hit it again, as if it had hit the post or something like that, but there's no problem, it was the right call.

"There was a few highs and lows in the game, the girls were brilliant after that, we changed things and went three at the back and went for it, got our equaliser with five or so to go.

"But that joy was soon away when they scored almost immediately, a real kick in the teeth for everyone because they put so much into the game.

"Our performances over the 90 minutes are getting stronger though, as displayed by the fact that we can score with ten players late in the game."

It was an afternoon to forget for Hamilton as goalkeeping errors dictated the game and saw the hosts drop all tree points at the hands of Hutchie Vale.
